Amin Ataee is an Iranian composer, tar and setar player, and music researcher born in Isfahan. He began studying music at the age of six, learning the official Radif of Mousa Khan Maroufi under Houshang Zarif and the oral tradition of the Isfahan school with Shahram Mirjalali. He also participated in the masterclasses of Keyvan Saket.
As a teenager, he benefited from the guidance of great masters like Jalil Shahnaz and Hassan Kassai. At the age of eleven, his performance at a tribute ceremony for Jalil Shahnaz received national and international attention, attracting figures such as Mohammad-Reza Shajarian, Jalil Shahnaz, Homayoun Khorram, Dariush Pirniakan, and Majid Derakhshani.
He continued his formal education with Dariush Pirniakan, studying the radif of Agha Hosseinqoli and Ali Akbar Khan Shahnazi, and with Dariush Talai, studying the radif of Mirza Abdollah and Shahnazi’s radif. He also learned avaz and avaz accompaniment from Ali-Asghar Shahzidi.
In the academic fields of composition, harmony, and solfège, he studied under Amir Hossein Eslami, Shahin Farhat, and Masoud Ebrahimi. He was recognized as the top student at University of Tehran and admitted to the Master’s program through the Exceptional Talent pathway, studying with professors such as Azin Movhed, Houman Asadi, Sasan Fatemi, Khosrow Molana, Hesamoddin Seraj, Reza Parvizzadeh, and Siamak Jahangiri.
His artistic focus is centered on two main areas: improvisation as a personal language of expression on the tar, and the development of a polyphonic language in Iranian composition—a vision embodied in his music project “Dance of Outcry.”
Winner and Honoree of the 2025 Global Music Awards (USA) for the album "Dance Of The Outcry" and the single "City Without Windows".
